About the event

The Peace and Conciliation Project Black Healing Space committee invites you to join us in our first Guided Poetry Hour. During this event, we will focus on appreciation of ourselves through our imaginations made manifest by our pens guided by our hearts. Never written a poem? Don’t you fret. We are here to guide you through the writings with interactive prompts that bring your essence into view.

If this event speaks to you, grab your pen, paper and favorite drinks/snacks and come have a therapeutic experience with us. There is no cost to join and so much to gain!

**As with all Peace and Conciliation Project Black Healing Space events, this event is intended for Black Americans. Those White or other POC who wish to support this work can do so by respecting the exclusiveness of this space and may consider becoming a Sustaining Peacemaker.

Please watch this 6-minute video on Gwendolyn Brooks!

“What words

have smashed against

these walls,

crashed up and dawn these

halls,

lain mute and then drained

their meanings out and into,

these floors?

What feelings, long since

dead,

streamed vague yearnings

below this ceiling

light?

In some dimension

which I cannot know,

the shadows of

another still exist. I bring my

memories, held too long in check,

to let them here shoulder

space and place to be.

And when I leave to

find another house,

I wonder, what among

these shades will be

left of me.”

-Maya Angelou
